Today is “A human rights day” in Azerbaijan. In June 18, 1998 HeydarAliyev certified “state programme on protection of human rights”. Taking into account the acceptance of the programme and the guarantee of human rights being one of the mainstreams of state policy, President Ilham Aliyev issued a command in June 18, 1997 to mark this day as “A human rights day”.

“7 year mandate of Azerbaijan ombudsman terminates. During these years, it has done a wide range of activities to boost up human rughts inAzerbaijan.”

Head of OSCE Office in Baku, Ambassador Bilge Cankorel, issued a statement about proposed amendments to the Azerbaijani Law on nongovernmental organizations.

“Azerbaijan takes an active part in the projects on the participation of women in the political life of the society. AIDS/HIV problem and bioethical problems are urgent for all the countries of the region, including Azerbaijan. We will continue implementing the related projects.”

"This is a time of enormous global uncertainty, but especially so for tens millions of refugees and displaced people uprooted by conflict and persecution. They have lost not only their livelihoods and their homes, but their loved ones, their friends, their communities, their countries."

There are 2 061 refugees and 603 251 displaced persons in Azerbaijan, said UN High Commission for Refugees said in its annual report.

Despite the steps that Iran's Guardian Council will take in connection with the recalculation of the votes in the presidential elections on June 12, they will not affect the results of the vote. Mass protest actions are held in Iran against the results of the presidential election. Supporters of Mir Hussein Mousavi declared mass violations in the elections.
