The Azerbaijani Justice Ministry denied rumors in the press today that a prisoner committed suicide. Several media outlets disseminated information today about the alleged suicide of prisoner Elnur Ismayilov, who is serving a six-year sentence for murder. Ismayilov was sentenced for killing residents of Dag Biliji village- 14-year-old Naila Majidova and seven-year-old Reyhan Majidova.

According to the press, Ismayilov was subjected to psychological pressure and committed suicide by hanging himself in the hospital. The information is false, the Justice Ministry reported today.

"There is no problem with his psychological or physical condition. He is in the investigation cell now. Later he will be transferred to a prison," the ministry said. Tavakkul Ismayilov was sentenced to life imprisonment, Elnur to six years in prison, and Elchin Ismayilov to four years in prison for murder.
