2 September 2010 | OSCE, Press Council hold round table in Azerbaijan
OSCE, Press Council hold round table in AzerbaijanThe Azerbaijani Press Council jointly with the OSCE held a round table meeting to discuss changes to be made in the Code of Professional Ethics of Azerbaijani Journalists.

"The press often reveal under age children, and people facing sexual violence", the Press Council chairman Aflatun Amashov said.

According to the planned changes, journalists undertake not to sensationalize the reports about the criminal acts, violence, abuse and suicide.

Journalists must not make reports that could affect the objectivity of the court while considering criminal cases, create panic, exaggerate cases of terrorist acts.

The Press Council member Yunus Oguz said that the media often uses "black PR" on the eve of the parliamentary elections. "The OSCE and the Press Council must keep working together to prevent similar cases," he said.

Amashov said that a "round table" was held to prepare for a conference on media self-regulation, to be held by the Press Council and the OSCE September 6.
