The important works was done for improvement of the roads by Administration of Republic of Azerbaijan last years. Lot of highways was put into operation meeting world standards. All these actions achieved success decreasing the traffic jam and also decreasing the spreading the used gas into atmosphere.

But increased number of the transport means and the traffic in the center of Baku city put under the doubt the protection the atmosphere from the used gas. Joint Working Group for the Implementation of International Human Rights Standards several times tried to bring the attention of public and state structures to the situation of ecological security system as one of the important directions of protecting of human rights in Baku and continues its monitoring in this direction...

Approximately 20 complaints were submitted within the day. The workers of “Hot line” service of Joint Working Group on Implementation of International Standards of Human Rights in Azerbaijan visited Lankaran city and took care about the complaints of the citizens.

According to the head of “Hot line” Service Shahin Jamalov approximately 20 complaints were submitted within the day. Complaint applications are mostly about problems in receiving social aid, provision of electric energy, installation of meters, distribution and occupation of lands etc.

The Joint Working Group on the implementation of international human rights standards in Azerbaijan (http://www.humanrights-jwg.org) starts realization of the project of “Monitoring of Highway Patrol Service in central highways”, taking into account large number of complaints against the bodies of the Head State Road Police of the Ministry of Interior which carry out Highway Patrol Service in main higways, the “Hot Line” service received last months.

The current issues were discussed at the meeting the members of local NGOs representatives of Joint Working Group.
The proposals of JWG chairman Kamil Salimov on the project on “Guarantee of ecological security system of Mountainous Karbakh” were discussed.

On the eve of October 15, 2008 presidential elections, Joint Working Group on Implementation of International Standards of Human Rights in Azerbaijan has prepared the proposals and opinions on the additions and amendments to the Election Code, has monitored the right of freedom of assembly in the period of election campaign, Mass Media (including 10 leading newspapers, 7 central TV channels and 3 Internet news sites) beginning from August 1, 2008 and has conducted observation of the voting process in 87 polling stations set up in Baku, Sumgait, Ganja, Gokchay, Guba, Jalilabad, Shamkir, Yevlakh and Khurdalan.
