25 November 2008 | International Red Cross Committee replied to the appeal of Ombudsman on military captives
The Committee is holding a confidential dialog with the family of Rafig Hasanov. Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova received an answer to her letter from the head of International Red Cross Committee Representation in Azerbaijan T.Vandenhova on returning of Azerbaijan Armed Forces soldier Rafig Hasanov who has been captive on Armenian side. In her letter the head of IRCC Representation in Azerbaijan T.Vandenhova thanked the Ombudsman of the Republic of Azerbaijan for her concerns about the state of Rafig Hasanov and noted that the entity was monitoring the conditions of the captive and was assisting information exchange between the soldier and his family, press service of Ombudsman Administration informed Lenta.az. IRCC stated that the entity was held confidential dialog with the family of R.Hasanov and continued this work. “If we are applied IRCC assists state bodies within the cooperation of all applied parts to organize repatriation or deliverance of the freed military captives and civil detainees. At the same time IRCC talks with the detained person in private to ensure if he wants to be returned to his home before it agrees to assist this operation. It should be noted that Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova talked on the phone to Azeri military captive R.Hasanov’s mother and asked about his state. R.Hasanov was captured on October 8 of this year by Armenian soldiers.
