The municipal elections are expected to be held in mid December in Azerbaijan, chairman of the Central Election Commission, Mazahir Panahov, told journalists on August 24. "The exact date of the election will be known in late September at a meeting of the CEC," said Panahov.

Panahov also said that the municipalities, the powers of which have not yet completed, have appealed to the CEC with a request to join the upcoming elections. This is an unusual case for the CEC, he said.

"The CEC is studying these appeals, and if they are not contrary to the law, these municipalities will be included in the election process," said Panahov.
