28 August 2009 | Transparency International report distorted: Transparency Azerbaijan Office
Transparency International report distorted: Transparency Azerbaijan OfficeMedia reports on figures for corruption contradict the reality, the head of the Azerbaijani office of Transparency International said. Transparency International releases a report on the figures for corruption every year. The latest figures were announced in September 2008. In the list, Azerbaijan was 158th out of 180 countries. The new report will be made public in October or November, the Executive Director of the Azerbaijani office of Transparency International, Rena Safaraliyeva, told Trend News.

Some media reports suggest that in the latest report by the Transparency International Organization, Azerbaijan ranked second in the list of countries with a high level corruption.

Safaraliyeva said that some Azerbaijani media reports distorted the report by Transparency International. "The media had not precisely understood the organization's report, to which they referred. The members of Transparency Azerbaijan are currently working to publish a correction in the newspaper which spread the reports," Safaraliyeva added.
