8 September 2009 | Azerbaijani constitutional court interrogates members of municipalities: chairman
Azerbaijani constitutional court interrogates members of municipalities: chairmanThe Azerbaijani Constitutional court has received claims concerning the municipalities. "Some chairmen and members of the municipalities have been interrogated in court concerning certain cases. The court decided that the legislative acts on these cases were outdated," Chairman of the Azerbaijani Constitutional Court, Farhad Abdullayev, told Trend News on Sept.7.

So far, the court has not received any claims concerning the discrepancy between municipal constitutional acts and the law. Citizens prefer to solve disputes through the courts if there are a lot of complaints against the municipalities. Although citizens have the right to appeal on the unlawfulness of the municipal acts directly to the Constitutional Court, the court did not receive any appeals, Abdullayev added.

According to Abdullayev, according to civil procedural law, everyone has the right to appeal to the court in connection with municipal acts and citizens favored the courts restoring their violated rights. The chairman of the court considers the relevant activities on legal education for residents and members of municipalities in connection with this issue as significant. "Citizens must know where and to what court they can appeal," Abdullayev added.
