Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee adopts the additions to law on removing limitation on prosecutor general's appointmentThe Azerbaijani Parliamentary Legislation and Legal Policy Committee recommended considering the amendments and changes to the law on "Prosecutor's Office". According to the information of Trend News, the committee at its meeting on Oct. 5 discussed a bill on amendments and changes to the law on "Prosecutor's Office" upon President Ilham Aliyev's legislative initiative.

The bill includes an item removing limitation on appointment of the prosecutor general, military prosecutor, prosecutor and military prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), which was described in the Article 16 of the law on the "Prosecutor’s Office".

At present, under the current law, the same person cannot be appointed to the position of Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Republic, Military Prosecutor of Azerbaijan Republic, and Prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic more than twice. The new bill applies this limitation to district and specialized prosecutors.

The current Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, Zakir Garalov occupies this position since April 25, 2000 and his office term will expire on April 25 in 2010. The Military Prosecutor, Khanlar Aliyev has been appointed to this position since Feb. 10, 2005.
