Azerbaijani NGO Alliance for Children’s Rights has compiled an alternative reportOn October 26, Azerbaijani NGO Alliance for Children`s Rights held a round table meeting in the hotel “Park Inn-Azerbaijan” on the topic of “An alternative report concerning the civil society and the situation of childrens` rights on the situation of children in Azerbaijan and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.”

The chairman of Juridical Promotion Public Union “Hugug Dunyasi”(World of Law), Nazir Guliyev said that, it is already the second time they presented an alternative report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child regarding the situation of children`s rights in Azerbaijan. Encompassing 2005-2009, the report has been prepared by approximately 80 NGOs included in the alliance, together with various state bodies.

While preparing the report on the existing situation of children, the working groups of the alliance has delivered trainings, seminars in different regions. This report reflects reforms carried out in the country on children who violate the law, who are subjected to physical violence, disabled and who leave approved school real situation and existig problems in the country.

The speaker has pointed out that, the question was also raised in the national conference on “A reform for the protection of children in Azerbaijan” held in Baku.Various propositions regarding the mechanism for the protection of children, the importance of assessment of families before assigning children to state institutions,application of better prosedures for giving children with limited health to boarding schools and orphanages were made in the conference.

He has notified that, the State Committee on problems of Family, Women and Children has presented a report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child on behalf of Azerbaijani government. Azerbaijan NGO Alliance for Children's Rights will send an alternative report to the body at the end of November.
