5 November 2009 | Azerbaijani prisons disinfected against swine flu
Azerbaijani prisons disinfected against swine fluAzerbaijani prisons will be disinfected against the swine flu. Disinfection measures will begin shortly, Health Department head at the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry Rafael Mehdiyev told Trend News. Prisoners and prison staff were educated as to how to best protect themselves and combat the A/H1N1 virus, he said. Azerbaijani Hygiene and Epidemiology Center staff held the training. A third case of swine flu was reported in Azerbaijan yesterday.

An Azerbaijani citizen temporarily residing in Ukraine's Ivanovo-Frankivsk region was found to be infected with the swine flu after returning to the Azerbaijani region of Kurdamir. The patient was taken to the Azerbaijani Lung Diseases Scientific and Research Institute where he is undergoing treatment. Prophylactic measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

Azerbaijan is among 90 countries to receive 300 million vaccines against the swine flu from the WHO free of charge. The first vaccine against swine flu will be brought to the country this month. According to the WHO, over 400,000 cases of swine flu have been discovered worldwide.
