30 October 2008 | Statement – the presidential elections in Azerbaijan were conducted in a fully democratic condition
The statement of Research Center of International Relations of Azerbaijan (RCIRA) which has included whole election period shows that the elections have been held in a fully democratic condition. “The presidential elections conducted in a democratic condition have become a significant event in the history of Azerbaijan. Even if the radical representatives of opposition haven’t participated at the elections the process has held with the high activity of voters”, stated the chairman of RCIRA at the press conference carried out in Trend Press Center on Wednesday. The report of Trend News: The presidential elections in Azerbaijan were conducted on October 15. According to the results of the elections Ilham Aliev received more votes than the other candidates-88.73% of votes. Igbal Agazadeh received 2.86%, Fazil Gazanfaroglu 2.47%, Gugrat Hasanguliev 2.28%, Gulamhuseyn Alibayli 2.23%, Fuad Aliev 0.78% and Hafiz Haciev 0.65% of votes. The head of the research group Razi Nurullaev stated that there were severals factors differentiating the previous elections from this one. “The elections were different with its originality. All failed candidates congratulated the candidate who had won and this was a new era in Azerbaijan politics “, he added. Nurullaev touched the post election period and stated that during that period great changes weren’t expected. He also stated: “There is loyalty between the Azerbaijan president and the State. Even there will not be great changes but young staff will have more opportunities”. He added that the recommendations had been included to the statement of Public Union. “In the recommendations it is stated that in order to develop the positive atmosphere created during the elections the measures should be taken in direction of establishing civil relations between the ruling party and opposition and fertile and effective relations should be created to make international organizations accept the democratic changes happens in Azerbaijan”, said Nurullaev. The statement of Research Center of International Relations of Azerbaijan has been prepared with the financial help of Council of State Support to NGOs under the Azerbaijan Presidential Administration.
