The UN Secretary General: “natural resources have played a role in at least 18 conflicts happened since 1990” The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon addressed to member states with regard to November 6- The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. According to the information that UN representation in Azerbaijan provided APA with, although there has passed 30 years after the annihilation of greenness as the result of the use of chemical substances during the war in Vietnam and more than 20 years after the demolition of over 600 oil-wells at the end of the Gulf War in Kuwait, environment is still the victim of armed conflicts.

At the result of the damage to the subsoil water supply in the course of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, 1.5 million people are in need of water in Palestine and agriculture is in danger. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon reminded that, natural resources have played a role in at least 18 conflicts happened since 1990. Although the environment and natural resources are protected under some international legal documents, it is still not enough what is done to bring these documents into force.
