Azerbaijan Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova took part in the 11th conference of the Asian Ombudsmen Association held in Bangkok, Thailand. The press service of the Ombudsman has informed Trend News. The conference, titled “Worthy management and the role of ombudsmen in reforms in this field”, brought together 23 representatives from 15 countries.

The ombudsmen from Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Japan, Iran, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, India, Australia and as well as, from the USA and Canada had joined the event. On top of Azerbaijan, the ombudsmen from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Tatarstan from the Commonwealth of Independent States took part in the conference.

The y discussed the essence of worthy management and the experience of different countries in this sphere, the implemented reforms, as well as, the collaboration of ombudsmen with the civil society in the safeguarding of human rights, the protection of children`s rights and the activities of Ombudsmen as mediators and other things at the conference.

Azerbaijani Ombudswoman chaired at the first plenary session held for the protection of human rights. Summarizing the lectures, debate by the ombudsmen from Iran, Pakistan, Vietnam and Canada, she gave the participants of the conference recommendations in the topic.

At the fourth plenary session on the human rights protection, Elmira Suleymanova delivered a lecture on the topic “Ombudsman`s opportunities in promotion and protection of the human rights in Azerbaijan”. Mrs. Suleymanova provided detailed information concerning the emergence of the Ombudsman, constitutional law about Ombudsman, regional centers of the Ombudsman in Azerbaijan, the structure of the establishment, procedure of reception of complains.

Ombudsman`s activities in insuring rights of children, women, refugees and IDP-s, elderly people, disabled people, prisoners, military servants and the role of specialized counselors fighting against torture, trafficking and corruption were pointed out.

The partakers were provided with discs that depict Armenian aggression to Azerbaijan and Khodjali genocide, annual lectures and statements of Ombudsman.
