The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's (PACE) Monitoring Committee appointed a new co-rapporteur for Azerbaijan, PACE Vice President and Azerbaijani PACE delegation head Samad Seyidov told Trend News over the telephone today.

"Joseph Debono Grech from Malta will become the new co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan. The voting passed objectively. We are pleased with this choice," he said.

According to the official, Grech was elected co-rapporteur with 18 votes. Another candidate from Norway Lisa Christophersen received 12 votes. Seyidov said the date of the co-rapporteur's visit to the region is unknown.

Grech will replace Eugenia Zhivkova who resigned from the post in June 2009.
